How a Dad preps for Halloween
I've never been one to love scary movies, but Halloween -- the Holiday, not the movie -- is an event in our family. A bunch of us take our kids trick or treating, who are in the nearly pre, pre and teen years. So basically, the kids are getting to the age where trick or treating with their parents won't be cool anymore.
But, we are cool. We do it up big. There's about 10 families that go together. We stick to a pretty busy neighborhood and home owners expect us every year. To say we have fun is an understatement. I won't get into that here, but here's what I can get into that parents should adhere to:
- Pack a thermos with hot cider, coffee or hot chocolate. It gets cold at night so having a warm something along for the walk is handy.
- Pack an extra hoodie for the kids. You know that the kids will want to wear their costumes and they won't want to wear a coat. So, find something that can fit under the costume and make sure you bring another coat just in case. Last thing you want is a cold kid who could get sick.
- Pack a flashlight. It gets dark and it gets dark early. Before packing a heavy light with a weak beam, be sure to check out the Atomic Beam.
