The next chapter in our scoliosis journey begins

Left side without the brace; right side with.

Left side without the brace; right side with.

When I go back and read my post about my youngest's scoliosis diagnosis, I say to myself, "You were over acting dude. Chill out."

I'm right.

After the initial shock of it all, the outpouring of support and my own research, I was devastated. Fast forward to today and the outlook is MUCH more positive. You see, the brace works. It actually freakin' works. The doctors at Children's were pleased with my daughter's progress. The bend in her degree without the brace versus when she's in the brace is night and day. It's nearly straight while she's in the brace.

The doctors tell us that we just have to keep up with the regimen. We have to be militant about getting the 18 hours in per day. It's also important to continue to do physical therapy to keep her core strong. That's also going well, where the PT doc changed the exercises and made them a little more challenging for my daughter as she was mastering the first ones she had to do.

The lesson here is that while we're in a unique situation that not everyone can understand, it's not all that bad. Yes, our routines have changed, our parenting skills are being challenged, but in the end, it's all worth it. She will be a healthy young woman before we know it and this will be in the rearview mirror.

This week, she starts school, which will be the next phase in our journey. The plan is simple, just stick with it.
