Dealing with change in business
I've been around the block when it comes to business. I've worked at all types of agencies. I've worked with all types of people. I've worked with all types of clients.
The only thing that stitches all of that together is change.
It happens.
Most people hate it.
I don't let it bother me.
You see, clients come and go. Colleagues come and go. Policies come and go.
That's just life. If business was as monotonous as a job on a factory line, I'd jump off the Tobin.
Sidebar: People that work on factory lines are hard workers and deserve what they earn, if not more. That's a hard job that I couldn't do.
Back to changes...
What I find most interesting about change in business is how other people react. Some get heated. Some get nervous. Some just can't cope with it and freak out. Some jump ship. Some ride it out.
I'm of the former because I see change as an opportunity.
Colleague, who's your peer, leaves to go work elsewhere?
Ok, hmmm...what were they doing that I can now own and be an authoritative figure for our company?
Client decides not to extend their contact because of finance issues?
Cool, find another client in that business and use those key learnings to do bigger and better stuff.
Sorry for the rant, but change has happened to me professionally many times over.
I don't mind it. I see the opportunities. What about you?
