I was in meetings most of this afternoon and come back to a red hot interweb that's ablaze with the news that AOL might be buying Mashable.
Yes, your read that right. AOL might be buying Mashable -- arguable the number one source for all things social media (second to Shamable, of course).
What the heck would stoggie old AOL want with the hippest of hip online news sources?
My guess?
Revenue. Traffic. Notoriety. News.
It's really that simple. The purchase of Mashable will vault AOL into a player again (sorta), considering the f-up with Time Warner.
The reports are still unconfirmed with everyone (including me) trying to get details. Stay tuned.
