Three reasons why I like living in Revere
If you're from around Greater Boston and you mention the City of Revere, most people will get snarky.
The city has a reputation; one that is rough, predominately Italian, mob heavy, politically corrupt and more.
Whether any of the above is true (it was heavily Italian, but not anymore and btw, who cares about the make up of the people) I like living in this city for three reasons.
1. The location. I can throw a stone to the city of Boston but we aren't IN Boston. I can jump on the Tobin bridge and be in town in eight minutes. We are close to all major highways. The furthers is about 10 minutes away. And, worst case, there's public transportation options all over the city.
2. The food. We have a slew of restaraunts that showcase the diversity of this city. Whether you are in the mood for Italian, Brazillian, Greek or simply in the mood for a homecooked-type of experience, Revere has it.
3. The beach. This city is known for having the country's oldest public beach. Back in the heyday it looked like Atlantic City. There were rides and thoroughfare. It was a bustling hub and a get-a-way for those that didn't want to treck to the Cape or hit the shores of New Hampshire or Maine. After years of neglect, the city made a concerted effort to revitalize the beach. It is filled with great reataraunts, local eateries and other businesses and residences that make it a bustling place to be. Spring is a time for awakening on the water. Summers are jamming. Fall is busy and comforting. Winter is beautifully cold. All year round we can enjoy the water and scenic view of Boston and the Harbor.
We visit the beach often. We live five minutes from it and in fact, our family has a private section of the beach that we use frequently when we want to enjoy the peace and quiet of the crashing water.
While many of my friends live in expansive houses with big pools and lots of land, we live in a quaint, comfortable and modest home. The selling point for us is that we can have a day at the beach, any day. Jump in the car and go. It makes city living feel less city.
That's #WhyRevere.
p.s. I wrote this the day after the annual Sandcastle Event. We were there with friends and family, only on our private part of the beach. It reminded me again how many memories we are creating for our kids while hanging on the sand in our own back yard.
p.s.s. There are a handful of other reasons #WhyRevere but I figured three was digestible.
