Running sucks, but I'm inspired to walk
As my Twitter handle indicates, I'm, in fact, a big guy. I'm over six feet, closer to three bills than two, but have always been athletic. Whether playing baseball, golf, football or basketball, I could always get out there and work up a decent sweat. One thing I could never do is run and run for distance. It's hard. It sucks. It's miserable to do. I hate it.
However, after my buddy, fellow dad blogger and co-worker Aaron, introduced to a post written by Ruddy Bits, the thought of running made sense.
You see, Ruddy wrote, "I run so I can walk."
In my case, anytime I run, I'm desperately wanting to walk because I'm tired as shit. In this case, however, Ruddy is eluding to walking his daughters down the idle....at their weddings.
How powerful of a message is that?
It's no longer about me, my waist line and fitting into slimmer pants. It's about living a healthy life so when my two daughters get married, my slim ass will be there to walk them down the isle. Not to mention, I want to be able to look the dudes in the face and give them one last look to say, "Hey, don't fuck this up or we'll be having a long, long talk."
So this morning, at 520am, I started running (there was some walking involved). It sucked. It was hard. I hated it.
Now I have a reason.
Thanks Ruddy and Aaron.
