Dear Mrs. Big Guy,
Today is our seventh wedding anniversary. Somedays it feels like we've been married for 50 years and some days it feels like we've been married for 50 days. The days blend together and we get into our grooves of going to work when it's still dark out or getting up early to do school drop off at 7:50am. Regardless, I'm thankful that we're more than just ships passing in the night. We've made it seven years without killing each other, having two beautiful kids, a warm and caring home, a loving interwoven family and a life that I wouldn't trade for all the money in world (well...kidding).
In my blogging tradition, here are my seven things I'm thankful for as we look forward to another year of blissful marriage:
- Laundry: It's a pain staking process do to laundry day in and day out. Between the four of us, we're running through two outfits a day, or thereabouts. You sift through piles of clothes, mix-matched socks, hoodies, footie PJs and underwear. It's something that no one loves to do but you take on like a boxer in the ring. You grind it out and get it done.
- 3pm What's for Dinner Call: For all the times you call me at work, 90% of the time it's because you're bored or you just want to chit chat. Yes, you do call me with important stuff to not forget, reminders, the shopping list, etc. However, the best call is the one that comes around 3pm without fail that basically says, "What time are you leaving? What do you want for dinner?" For me, the answers are simple, "The usual. Whatever we have in the house or whatever your feeling." Without fail (unless we're going out for dinner), I come home and dinner is ready, hot and delicious -- no matter what you happen to whip up.
- The Way Our Kids Are: While I'm at the office for 10+ hours a day, you're home with the kids (for the first few years at least now that the oldest is in school full time). Regardless, all the little things that they do like saying god bless you after someone sneezes; saying thank you; knowing how to put dirty dishes in the sink; knowing that brushing their teeth is a must before you go to bed; or, giving the kids a heads up as to when I'm coming home so I get the best. greeting. ever. is priceless.
- Take Care of the Bills: I hate bills. I hate giving my hard earned cash away. I'm not the brightest bulb when it comes to finances, but you just get it done. It's one less thing I have to worry about. I make the money. You manage it and it seems to work.
- Getting Everything We Ever Need: Despite a zillion trips to the grocery store, Target, Home Depot, etc. you always seem to get what I or the kids need. Yes, I know it's a pain in the ass to buzz around and go to a bunch of places when it could be so easier to sit at home and play farmville all day long, but your random "stuff" trips are essential.
- Gotta Love a Good Laugh: Out of all the couples I know, I think you and I share the most laughs together. Yea, I know, I'm biased, but we really know how to keep each other entertained and laughing. Sometimes we're silly as silly can be, but those times are priceless and good for the soul.
- The Queen Rules: It's great being married to a strong headed, opinionated, tough broad who loves the Sox, can drink beer and throw F-bombs better than a taxi driver. Despite your rough edges, you're the Queen of the castle. You run the day to day activities. You keep the kids on schedule. You take care of the home. You decorate for every single holiday and non-holiday seasons that are imaginable to man-kind. However, you make a good home. It's really that simple. It brings a special meaning to home sweet home, because it really is home.
Who knows what the next year will bring, but I'm sure it'll include all of the above and more.
Happy anniversary. Thanks for putting up with my BS for seven years and counting.
