There are 1,000 reasons why you need to help kids beat cancer
I've written in this very space, a story about two kids who raise money to help other kids battle cancer. Those "kids" are my kids. They are the Lemonettes. This is our five-year anniversary of holding a lemonade stand, where all proceeds go to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.
Collectively, we've raised over $8,000. Every $2,000 funds research for an entire week. So that means, four whole weeks of research was funded by our family, friends, neighbors and colleagues. It's an awesome feeling that's delivered by pouring glasses of lemonade. We can make a difference and we are going to continue to do whatever we can to help families much like ours.
This year, being that it is our fifth, we wanted to do a little something special. The goal, as it is in every year, is to raise $2,000. We are well on our way to reaching that goal. A twist on this year's fundraiser is that we're doing it in honor of a friend of mine's daughter, who is smack dab in the middle of her own cancer battle as we speak. The news hit me hard, knowing that one day, my buddy's kid was just another kid who loved soccer, among other things. A day or so later, she, her dad and mom, heard the C word that no parents want to hear.
Remarkably, she's handling the battle head on and is doing great. She has a long road ahead of her. They have a great support base who's helping them out and we want to be part of that group.
As part of this effort, I want to challenge you, yes YOU. I have an anonymous donor who has offered to donate to our fundraiser this year to the tune of $1,000. I was floored by the offer. Instead of taking the donation, I wanted to challenge YOU out there to help us meet that $1,000 -- dollar for dollar. If we get to $1,000, the donor will match it with another $1,000.
This is where you come in. Go here and click the DONATE button on the right side of the page. It doesn't matter if it's a dollar or 100 dollars. Every bit counts, especially as we inch closer to the $1,000 mark.
Are you up for the challenge? I know The Lemonettes are!
