In the past 24 hours, I woke up at home in Boston (just north of it), spent the afternoon in Chicago and put my head on the pillow in Alabama. Work, sometimes, is very unpredictable. In fact, in my line of business -- integrated marketing -- nothing is predictable. Well, maybe clients are. Clients want results, which is exactly what they are paying us for, but regardless of the challenge, they want them.
Which leads me to my point. This trip was to build out a social media strategy for one client and to get a better understanding of the strategic direction of another (which informs the work that we do).
In my travels over the past 24 hours, I've had the chance to talk to a handful of random people. One lady was heading to Connecticut to see her family, but was delayed. She hates the cold weather and couldn't believe how much snow we got in Boston. One guy, who was probably the most annoying person I ever flew with, would not stop moving, getting up, checking his bag, etc. He also couldn't believe that we got over seven feet of snow in just over 30 days. I had to show him pictures to prove it. Lastly, the waitress who is serving me breakfast as I write this post apparently has no one else to talk to because she keeps coming over to me and asking me questions about the snow...yes, the snow.
So, what have I learned from the road this week? People are infatuated with the snow we've gotten in Boston and that it truly is unbelievable.
Thank goodness I bought a snowblower this year.
