In today's blogging world, it's all about speed and efficiency. There are a slew of tools to help you write, grab photos, edit content, etc. One of the tools are those mobile apps that allow you to create text from voice commands. Now, for you WordPress bloggers, you'll be able to "call" in your posts.
Think about it in an old school journalism way. On tight deadlines, reporters would call the copy desk and call their stories in so they could meet their deadlines and not hold up production of the paper.
The WordPress concept is just like that, only there's no one else on the other end of the phone, just some cool technology.
From a blog post on the topic:
The future is now, folks. You can now go to your My Blogs tab, enable Post by Voice, and get a special number and code to call your blog. After you’re done, the audio file from your phone call will be posted to your blog for all to listen to and enjoy. (And added to your RSS feed for podcast support.)
So now you can post to your WordPress via the web, email, iPhone, Android, Blackberry, desktop clients, and now any telephone in the world. Of course when you post it can be pushed to Facebook, Twitter, and more using the Publicize feature. What more could you want?
Well, since they are asking, I guess what we could want is dead-on transcription service. While calling in a post is great, it's surely not "new."
Posterous bloggers will tell you that they have been able to use sending a voice file via MMS will post automatically. In fact, apps like Cynch will also help you post audio blog.
The big game changer in the audio post world will be if there could be a transcription service, similar to what Google Voice does with voice mail. However, let's just hope that if it does happen, the transcription service is accurate as Google Voice transcription is far from superb.
Currently, the service is free and you can post up to 60 minutes of audio. The post did mention that in the future, their might be a paid model for this service.
Are you a WordPress blogger? Will you be using the call in feature? If so, how do you envision working it into your blogging style?
