Today is a day when we reflect and think about the men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. In a world where violence is ever present, we have to thank our soldiers for being on the front lines and putting themselves in danger for the sake of freedom.
We live in a media rich world, where at every turn, you're being bombarded with news. Whether it's on the TV, you're mobile, the internet or word of mouth. News infiltrates our daily lives whether we like it or not. And, more often than not, you'll hear about a soldier or two or three or four, that was "killed today in Iraq." We've gotten so used to those four words that we gloss over it unfortunately. They, and the other brave souls that came before them, cannot be forgotten.
Though today is memorial day, we should remember and thank our soldiers everyday. Whether you are a war supporter or not, you have to give props where props are due, as they say.The fact that we can sit in our backyards, suck back a few brews, burn some steak on the grill, while puffing on a stogie is due in large part to the men and women who have served and are serving in our armed forces. Their bravery affords us a free lifestyle that we so often take for granted. For that, I will forever be grateful.
Here's a picture (from Flickr) I took at a memorial day parade a couple years ago. It doesn't need an explanation.
